RX 4.0 offers maximum process reliability

With its new X-line machine generation, MULTIVAC has developed a thermoforming packaging machine, which meets the growing demands of customers, legislation and the marketplace. Particular attention was paid during its development to implement the specific requirements of the medical and pharmaceutical sectors, and MULTIVAC also took into account the experience and advancement gained over recent years. Proven components, such as those for monitoring and recording the forming and sealing pressure parameters, which make a major contribution to improving process reliability, are installed as standard in the new RX 4.0 machine.

Intelligent line control thanks to MULTIVAC Line Control.

MULTIVAC Line Control (MLC) enables the machine to be operated particularly efficiently within an overall packaging line. With just a single command at the control terminal, the central stop/start function allows the user to stop, activate or run empty all the components of the entire line at the same time, and it even allows the recipe to be changed in the same coordinated way. MLC also forms the basis for the simple linking of a packaging line to the customer's ERP, MES, MRP or PPS systems.

Perfectly designed for the demands of the industry.

Thanks to its GMP-compliant design, one of the many features of the RX 4.0 is its ease of cleaning, which means it can also be used in a cleanroom. The machine is available in various versions - without enclosure, with partial enclosure or with complete enclosure, and either polycarbonate or safety glass can be used for the construction of the enclosure. The areas of product processing and machine technology are separated from each other. In addition to offering secure line clearance, this also ensures a high level of security against losing products.

With the development of its RX 4.0 model, MULTIVAC has created a futuristic digitalised thermoforming packaging machine, which meets all the requirements for a high level of process reliability, and which is also a significant step forward towards the self-learning machine.

Effective support in these corona times

The outbreak of COVID-19 was declared a pandemic by the WHO on 11 March 2020. Although the medical products industry, like many other sectors, has been affected by severe restrictions and commercial damage, the demand for pandemic-related products continues to rise - and therefore also the demand for secure packaging solutions for these products. MULTIVAC has already been able to support many manufacturers at short notice in overcoming the current challenges.

Ensuring continuity of supply has the highest priority.

Individual countries are faced with the challenge of making sure, that their healthcare facilities are provided with urgently needed equipment, medical products and medication. “As the leading packaging solution supplier to the medical and life science sectors, we have been considering what contribution we can make in the current crisis. Ensuring continuity of supply has the highest priority, and we hope that, as part of the supply chain, we can be of assistance in this regard. We are therefore concentrating in particular on the short-term provision of suitable machine solutions,” explains Luc van de Vel, Executive Vice President of the Medical & Consumer Solutions Business Unit at MULTIVAC.

There was a significant increase at the start of the pandemic in the requirement for products used for taking samples, such as swabs, filters, and other diagnostic items. These pandemic-related products were required at extremely short notice. Thanks to stock machines and new machines with significantly reduced delivery times, MULTIVAC made a major contribution to covering this demand. "Our focus continues to be on prioritising COVID-related projects, issuing quotations very rapidly, optimising manufacturing times, and of course, delivering our packaging solutions as quickly as possible," says Luc van de Vel.

Carrier concepts make your processes more stable

As the automation of production processes increase, the linking of individual machines becomes ever more important. Products have to be transported in a controlled way between various pieces of equipment or different process stages. If object carriers are used, products can be buffered and interfaces linked continuously or intermittently. This means independent synchronisation is possible, including machine stops - without interrupting other processes.

Carriers are already being used frequently for product assembly. But they can also be used for transporting products onwards to downstream equipment, such as a packaging machine. Empty carriers are fed back again to the assembly station, creating a closed loop.

Carriers can also be used to transport several products at the same time. This enables the transport speed to be slowed down, without reducing the number of products. The reduced speed ensures greater stability of the process is achieved and that the products are always transported in a controlled way.
